For those patients who have symptomatic fibroids and are still desirous of having children, myomectomy is the surgical option of choice.

During this procedure, only the fibroids are removed and the defects in the uterine wall are repaired. There is an increased risk of bleeding with this procedure and rarely a hysterectomy may need to be performed if the bleeding becomes life-threatening. Depending on the extent of the surgical repair needed, you may be advised to avoid pregnancy for up to one year and may require a C- section to deliver your baby, when you do become pregnant.
